WHY  JOIN  NATIONAL  SMOOTH  DANCERS?

When Sandy and I first joined National Smooth Dancers (NSD) we thought we were pretty good dancers.  We quickly discovered that NSD members were passionate about ballroom dancing and about dancing well; and we were not as good of dancers as we thought ourselves to be!  But we wanted to be better dancers and to enjoy ballroom dancing.

As it is said about any skill, if you want to get better hang out with the better skilled people.  Being a member of a ballroom dance club with passionate and skilled dancers, in and of itself pushed us to become better dancers.  With eight chapters up and down California there is ample opportunity to dance and to make new friendships that have ballroom dancing as a core value.

NSD is unique as a ballroom dance club.  Most other clubs focus on either being a social club or a dance competition club.  We are lucky to have a club that strikes a comfortable balance between the two.  We are definitely social dancers, who dance at a higher level than many social dancers.  We also have two major dance weekends where NSD members have an opportunity to compete in ballroom dancing.  Deciding to enter a dance competition, which can be a little unnerving, is an effective method to improve one’s dancing skill.  The last thing you want to do is embarrass yourself on the dance floor, so the dedication and commitment to dance lessons and practicing for dance competition greatly improves your dance skills.

However, unlike clubs focused on dance competition, competing at NSD is not nearly as intimidating.  Additionally, you have members there to cheer you on and provide support.  And as a NSD member the cost to compete is $0.

In the dance competition world, entering competitions costs hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars per event.  Additionally there is the cost of costumes.   For those dancers that want to dance at the professional/near professional level these clubs serve a wonderful purpose in ballroom dancing.

So, NSD is the ballroom dance club that serves the passionate ballroom dancer; who wants to improve their dancing skill while developing friendships with other passionate, skilled ballroom dancers.   If you want to push your dancing commitment further, NSD also provides you with an easy and affordable entrance into the world of competitive ballroom dancing.

As you can see, NSD is the ballroom dancing club is for the dancer that wants to improve their skills while making new and lasting friendships in the ballroom dancing community.

We hope you will consider joining our ballroom dancing community.
